Transform Your Bedroom Into A Snooze

No matter what your taste in decor, a bedroom must serve one sole function; it has to be conducive to a good night’s sleep. This will always be the main purpose of a bedroom, whether you’ve decorated it in neutral colours like a hotel room, or in bright patterns. If you find that you’re not getting a restful sleep several nights in a row, and you’ve ruled out your lifestyle habits, then it’s time to give your bedroom a sleepy makeover. Here are a few changes that are guaranteed to help you doze off.

Cool and dark
Sleep experts agree that your bedroom needs to be a cool, dark place to ensure optimal sleep conditions; the recommended temperature is between 18 and 21 degrees. The best way to control the temperature in your room is by installing a ceiling fan; it’s cheaper to run than an electric fan, and it creates a white noise that helps send you off to sleep. As for creating darkness, all you need are some bespoke curtains to block out any residual light from the street. A completely dark room sends signals to your brain that it’s time to be asleep, whereas the constant stream of street lights would play a big part in keeping you awake.
Make your bed comfortable
You don’t need to be an expert to know that a comfortable bed is one of the first things you need for a good night’s sleep. The wrong mattress - or a mattress that’s simply too old - can be the cause of more than that crick in your neck or your low back pain. It also has a higher chance of being home to dust mites, which can irritate your throat and lungs, and aggravate allergies. If excessive tossing and turning is becoming a regular occurrence, it might be time for a new mattress.
Eliminate noise
You don’t want to be hearing cars rushing by, clocks chiming every fifteen minutes in big cities, or the fights between your noisy neighbours while you’re trying to fall asleep. The only thing that should be interrupting your sleep is suspicious noises from a baby monitor, or your children seeking protection from a nightmare. Muffle the noises of the outside world by putting in a thick, plush rug and throwing some cushions around. You also shouldn’t be using a noisy alarm to shake you awake every morning. Instead, sleep experts recommend trying a Progression Clock to gently wake you up every morning.
Hidden storage
Ideally, your room needs to be free of clutter so that you can completely relax, instead of being reminded of your To Do list. It’s best not to have a desk in your room, but if you have no space for a study in your house, then at least make it a fold-down desk so you can separate your work from your rest time. Some beds even come with drawers and storage space in the headboard so you can keep your various trinkets out of sight.
