How To Tackle The Hidden Germs In Your House

As a parent, you’re in a constant battle to keep your kids healthy. You can spend hours cleaning the house every day but there are always going to be germs hiding somewhere around the place. Getting rid of those hidden germs and staying on top of areas of the house that are prone to collecting dirt. These are some of the worst offenders and how you can tackle them.

Mattresses

Most people don’t think about their mattresses when they’re doing a big clean but they attract a lot of dust, dead skin cells, and germs. As well as being unhygienic, a dirty mattress can actually disrupt your sleep which is never a good thing. The good news is, you don’t need to clean it every single time you’re doing the rest of the house. Once a month or so, get the vacuum and run it over the mattress to clear out all of the dust. You can also get rid of any odours by sprinkling some baking soda over it and leaving it for a few hours before you vacuum.

Clothes

Obviously, you’ll be washing your clothes to get rid of the majority of the germs, but when they’re sitting in the drawer or the cupboard for a while, they can pick up more. There are a couple of things you can do here to help combat the germs in your clothes; firstly, make sure that you wipe the drawers and shelves in your wardrobe every week or two. Ironing is also a good way to get rid of germs as well as neaten up your clothes. The steam from the iron will kill any bacteria so you should always make sure that you get a good quality iron. Check out some reviews, to make sure you get the right one. If you’ve got an old washing machine, it could be harbouring a lot of germs as well, which are going to get on the clothes. You should always try to keep the detergent drawer clean so it doesn’t grow mould and use washing machine cleaner every few months.

Coffee Machine

You shouldn’t have to worry about the kids here because they won’t be drinking coffee anyway, but it can affect you. The kitchen is the most important room when it comes to hygiene but people never remember the coffee machine. They collect a surprising amount of bacteria on the inside and if you aren’t cleaning it properly, you’re drinking that down every single day. Most people make the mistake of just cleaning the filter and leaving the rest but if you really want to stay healthy, you need to take it apart and clean it regularly.

Reusable Bags

Reusable shopping bags are great for the environment but they’re not great for cleanliness. Most of us use them and then put them in the cupboard ready for next time. But they’re picking up more bacteria every time you use them and that’s getting on your food. You need to treat it like a piece of clothing and wash it regularly.

Get rid of these hidden sources of germs and your family will be a lot healthier.
