Expensive Home, Smallish Budget

If you want to make your home look classy but have a small budget, there are some simple things you can do to help you achieve the right look. You may not have the funds to decorate as a millionaire would, but these tricks will make it look as though you have spent a lot more than you have.

Crown Moulding/Coving

Crown moulding fits between the walls and the ceiling. It is easily fitted and adds a touch of class to any room. It always looks elegant and gives a finishing touch to any room that is classy. If you then paint the walls and ceiling the same colour and paint the moulding white or a lighter shade, it will be even more effective.

It comes in many different styles and sizes and if you are any good at decorating it is an easy do-it-yourself job. If not, it will not cost a fortune to have someone fit it for you.

Ceiling Medallion

While the moulding is being fitted, and before you start painting, fit a ceiling medallion around the main light. These can be found to match the crown moulding style you have purchased.

Traditionally they were used to put more focus on the light fitting but they can enhance the look of a room and be beautiful in their own right. They were very popular in the Victorian era, and fixing one in a home today can provide the same elegance as they did then.

They are particularly good with light fittings that are a bit special. The Bocci lighting available here is a typical example of the way these things can be combined to give the impression of a lot of money being spent when in reality it has been very little.

Large Pieces Of Art

It is not being suggested that you spend a fortune are a large piece of art. You can find them quite cheaply in markets or you may know someone that will paint something for you. The thing is that it does not matter how much a large piece of art has cost you, it will always look expensive.

Abstract paintings or large geometric patterns tend to look better than scenic views unless of course, it is a photo you have has made much bigger.

Focus On Layout

Any home will look better when things are places thoughtfully rather than just strewn about. Focus on things such as bookcases and make sure any books are standing upright.  For mantels, coffee tables and side tables, they do not need to be cluttered are will look more elegant with just a few things in the right positions.

Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers are one of the best things you can use to give a room an instant lift. If you have a garden you could cut yourself from flowers from there. Put them in a nice vase, nothing too fancy, and place them in a central point of the room.

They will not only look great but also they will give the room a pleasant aroma as well.

It does not have to cost a fortune to make it look as though that is what you have spent, so get started today and make your home look like a millionaire’s.
