Rug Doctor Review: Removing Stains From My Carpet

We've lived in our current home for 4.5 years now and in that time we've had 2 babies. As you can imagine life is a lot busier now and a lot more expensive. There's a list as long as my arm of jobs I'd love to do in the home, but money just isn't there at the moment. One thing I'd love to do is change the carpets throughout the house. They were here when we moved in, so although they are neutral they're not to our choosing. And with 1 boy who has just been potty trained and the other who has regular explosive poonami nappies, you can just imagine what our poor carpets have been through in the last year.

So when Rug Doctor got in touch and asked if I'd like to try out some of their products you can imagine my delight. I'm embarrassed to say our carpets have never been cleaned in the time we've lived here. Obviously we've cleaned up any messed, but they have only had spot cleans and there's still some stains on the carpet that just wouldn't come up.

What I was sent for review

Let's go through what I've been trying out and what I thought of the results. There's also a video for you to watch so you can see for yourself just how well these products did (see below).

1. Oxy Power Stain Remover

This is perfect for getting up red wine or coffee stains, or in our case a paint stain. It's best to work on the stain as quickly as possible, however the paint stain I wanted to get up was over a year old. To be completely honest I was sceptical that the stain remover would work. After all this wasn't kids paint designed to wash out, it was an easycare washable emulsion designed to be hard-wearing.

2. High Foot Traffic Cleaner

We are a shoes off in the house family, but no matter how hard we try not to have our shoes on, there are always times when we need to pop back in for something. I guess that's one of the hazards of having kids, you have to take everything including the kitchen sick when you leave the house.

This product works alongside the deep cleaner machine as a pre-treatment.

3. Urine Eliminator

This product is specifically for those who have kids and/or pets as it is effective against urine, faeces and vomit stains. I didn't get to use this stain remover this time as I wanted to concentrate my efforts on the paint stains we had, but I've no doubt it's going to come in use in the future or maybe in the next few days. Who knows when I'll next have to clean up a not so nice mess.

4. Carpet Detergent and Deep Carpet Cleaner

Even though I was concentrating my efforts on removing some stains, I was so excited to give my carpets an all over general clean. The detergent that is used with the deep cleaner machine, cleans, deodorises, rejuvenates & protects. Also contains "SpotBlok stain repellent to protect your carpet against future stains and spills".

What I thought and the results

I decided to concentrate my efforts on our 3 year olds bedroom as there were some stains I particularly wanted to work on. The paint stains that were over a year old and some marks on the carpet that can only be described as high traffic marks.

I started on the paint stains and like I said earlier I really wasn't expecting that they would be removed. Well after the 1st application of the Oxy Power stain remover the stains were almost completely gone. And with a second application I could hardly make out where they'd been. There was a second stain that I worked on which was much bigger and which I had less successful with, but I've no doubt with a little more effort it should also completely go. However I'm sure you'll agree from the photo below that it was greatly improved from what it had been.

I then sprayed the high foot traffic cleaner on the areas that needed some extra attention, before using the deep cleaner and detergent to clean the whole carpet. The machine was extremely simple and easy to use and had clear labels on the machine to help with its use.

And again the results were amazing. There was no scrubbing involved with the high traffic cleaner, I just left it on for 10 minutes and the deep cleaner did the hard work.

I'm so pleased with the results and quite frankly amazed that particularly the paint stains have all but gone. The carpet looks a million times better and I'll definitely be working my way around the house to get the rest of our carpets looking the same.

Don't forget to check out my video to see me using the products and deep cleaner machine.
